What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums that is characterized by red, swollen, tender gums that may bleed during brushing or flossing. This initial stage of gum disease is usually easy to treat by removing the soft deposits (plaque) and hard deposits (tartar). If left untreated, gingivitis may lead to periodontal disease.

What is Periodontitis?

Periodontitis is more severe stage of gum disease that involves the destruction of the bone that supports the tooth. It usually manifests itself with increased depths of gum pockets and loss of periodontal structures. If untreated, periodontis will eventually result in tooth loss and may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and other inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and even Alzheimer’s disease.

Periodontitis cannot be reversed without surgery, but regular scaling and root planing treatments may slow down or even stop the progression of this condition.

Will whitening weaken my teeth or cause hypersensitivity?

ZOOM teeth whitening does not damage or erode enamel. It works by breaking down the stain’s molecular bonds, making them appear colourless. Some patients report mild sensitivity after the in-office procedure which may last up to 24 hours. This is caused by the stimulation of the pulpal nerve by the hydrogen peroxide in the whitening gel.

Philips ZOOM take-home system uses ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate) and potassium nitrate desensitizers which strengthen enamel and gently whiten, making ZOOM the healthiest way to brighten teeth.
